Key Takeaway
How GetAHomePro calculates home service costs. Our transparent methodology โ what the data is, what it isn't, and how it's improving.
We believe you deserve to know how cost estimates on GetAHomePro are calculated. Here's the full picture โ what our data is, what it isn't, and how it's getting better.
What Our Cost Data Is
Every city ร service page on GetAHomePro shows an estimated cost range. These estimates are generated using:
Regional market analysis โ cost patterns across similar markets, population sizes, and trade demand
Contractor database signals โ the number, density, and competitiveness of contractors in each area
AI-assisted modeling โ algorithms that synthesize available market data into plausible cost ranges for each city-service combination
Industry benchmarks โ published rate guides from trade associations and provincial bodies
We cover 2,026 cities across Canada with cost estimates for 17 service types. This is wider coverage than any other Canadian home services platform โ most only publish cost guides for 8-10 major cities.
What Our Cost Data Is NOT
We want to be clear about the limitations:
Not sourced from actual invoices. We don't yet have a large enough volume of completed jobs to build cost data from real transactions.
Not from contractor quotes. Contractors on our platform haven't yet reported enough pricing data to replace estimates.
Not from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While BLS wage data informs general labor cost modeling, we don't directly pull from BLS databases.
In plain language: Our cost estimates are educated estimates based on market analysis โ not verified transaction data. They're useful for ballpark budgeting, not for holding a contractor to a specific price.

Want a real quote, not an estimate?
Text us what you need done. Weโll connect you with a contractor whoโll call you with an actual number.
Our revenue share model creates a natural path to real cost data:
Stage 1: Market Estimates (Current)
AI-generated ranges based on regional analysis. Useful but unverified.
Stage 2: Contractor-Reported Rates (Building Now)
As contractors claim profiles and join the platform, they input their rate ranges. This replaces AI estimates with real contractor pricing for each city ร service.
Stage 3: Job-Reported Costs (Coming)
Our follow-up system asks homeowners: "How much did the job cost?" As completed jobs accumulate, we'll aggregate actual costs โ the gold standard.
Stage 4: Verified Transaction Data (Future)
For contractors using our invoicing system, we'll have exact job costs from real transactions.
As each stage builds, confidence scores on our pages will reflect the data quality:
๐ก "Market estimate" โ AI-generated (current for most pages)
๐ข "Contractor-reported" โ based on rates from local pros
๐ข๐ข "Verified" โ based on actual completed job costs
Why We Publish Estimates Instead of Nothing
Some platforms only show cost data for cities where they have verified data. That means 90%+ of Canadian cities have NO cost information at all.
We chose a different approach: show estimates everywhere, be transparent about the source, and improve the data over time. A ballpark estimate is more useful than no information โ as long as you know it's a ballpark.
Every cost page on GetAHomePro includes:
The estimated range (low / average / high)
A confidence indicator
A note that actual costs vary by project and contractor
A CTA to get a real quote from verified local contractors

Improvement โ every contractor claim and completed job improves our data
Honesty โ we don't claim "real quotes" until we have them
Utility โ even estimates help homeowners avoid being dramatically overcharged
FAQ
Are GetAHomePro's cost estimates accurate?
They're useful as ballpark ranges for budgeting. For accurate pricing, always request quotes from 2-3 local contractors. Our estimates help you know if a quote is in the right ballpark.
Where does the cost data come from?
Regional market analysis, contractor database signals, AI-assisted modeling, and industry benchmarks. Not from individual invoices or contractor quotes (yet).
Will the data get more accurate over time?
Yes. As more contractors join and more jobs are completed through our platform, estimates are progressively replaced with real, verified cost data.
Why don't you just show real data?
We will โ as we collect it. In the meantime, showing honest estimates across 2,026 cities is more useful than showing nothing for 98% of Canadian cities.
This methodology is current as of March 2026. As our data sources evolve, this page will be updated.
