What Our Cost Data Is
Every city × service page on GetAHomePro shows an estimated cost range. These estimates are generated using:
Regional market analysis — cost patterns across similar markets, population sizes, and trade demand
Contractor database signals — the number, density, and competitiveness of contractors in each area
AI-assisted modeling — algorithms that synthesize available market data into plausible cost ranges for each city-service combination
Industry benchmarks — published rate guides from trade associations and provincial bodies
We cover 2,026 cities across Canada with cost estimates for 17 service types. This is wider coverage than any other Canadian home services platform — most only publish cost guides for 8-10 major cities.
What Our Cost Data Is NOT
We want to be clear about the limitations:
Not sourced from actual invoices. We don't yet have a large enough volume of completed jobs to build cost data from real transactions.
Not from contractor quotes. Contractors on our platform haven't yet reported enough pricing data to replace estimates.
Not from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. While BLS wage data informs general labor cost modeling, we don't directly pull from BLS databases.
In plain language: Our cost estimates are educated estimates based on market analysis — not verified transaction data. They're useful for ballpark budgeting, not for holding a contractor to a specific price.

Stage 4: Verified Transaction Data (Future)
For contractors using our invoicing system, we'll have exact job costs from real transactions.

Why We Publish Estimates Instead of Nothing
Some platforms only show cost data for cities where they have verified data. That means 90%+ of Canadian cities have NO cost information at all.
We chose a different approach: show estimates everywhere, be transparent about the source, and improve the data over time. A ballpark estimate is more useful than no information — as long as you know it's a ballpark.
